영국 BBC방송은 24세 청년 앤드류 씨가 고교시잘 광우병에 노출된 쇠고기를 먹고 병에 걸려 작년 12월 사망헸다는 소식을 5월 2일 다시 방송했다.

네티즌 ⓧ루나 씨는 "인간 광우병이라는 치료약이 없는 신종 바이러스때문에 앤드류는 24살 나이로 생을 마감했다"며 "지금 이런 사실들이 광우병이 처음 시작된 영국에서 일어나고 있는일이고, 동물성 사료를 먹은 미국 늙은 소들이 우리나라에 유통되면 이런 일들이 우리나라에도 시작될 것"이라고 우려했다.

한국에서도 직년 10월 울산에서 인간광우병의로 의심되는 질병에 시달리다 사망한 사건이 뒤늦게 알려져 파문이 일고 있다. 특히 이같은 질병을 신고받고 추척 관리해야 할 질병관리본부는 아예 신고조차 받지 않은 사실이 밝혀졌다.

Bid for answers over son's death

Andrew Lord struggled to walk and perform simple tasks before his death. A mother from Hampshire has confronted a former agriculture minister in her quest for answers over her son's death. Christine Lord's 24-year-old son Andrew died from the human form of mad cow disease last December. Through her own research, Ms Lord from Southsea, believes her son may have been infected through school dinners. But in an exchange with former minister John Gummer, who famously fed his daughter a burger, he stood by the evidence which claimed beef was safe. Mr Lord showed no signs of the disease until the end of 2006 when he was misdiagnosed as being depressed. 'Want answers' When the disease was detected last July, he was unable to walk properly and struggled to carry out simple tasks. His mother had to watch him suffer in the final months of his life. "I am extremely angry that this tragedy has happened to my fit, young, handsome son and I want some answers. I want to find out who is responsible for killing my son," she said. "I have to be his voice in the wilderness because it feels like we've been forgotten, that the broader public have forgotten about it but everyone over the age of 10 has been exposed to this." During her investigations she managed to arrange a meeting with the former government minister Mr Gummer. He said: "I believed beef was safe, I was prepared to eat it myself, I was prepared for my family to eat it because all the evidence showed that it was. "I remember at every point, and on every occasion, I sought to make the best choice and best decision I could for the safety and health of myself, my family, my country."

한국의 경우 미제 광우병 쇠고기가 수입될 경우 전체 고등학교 85%이상이 급식을 실시하게 돼 학생들의 미래 건강 문제가 심각한 상황에 빠질 수도 있다. 한국 군대의 경우 전체 25%가 미제 광우병 쇠고기를 이용해 급식할 수 있다.

이때문에 네티즌과 시민들은 "이명박 정부가 자국민들을 생체실험용으로 쓸 작정이냐"며 "국민은 미국과 이명박의 마루타가 아니라"고 분통을 터트린다.

이명박 대통령은 방미 당시 부시와 만나 미제 쇠고기 수입 전면개방을 협상했고, 이후 알려진 바에 따르면 30개월 이상된 미제 광우병 쇠고기 수입 전면개방은 세계 처음이고, 특히 광우병이 발견됐다고 해도 한국은 수입규제 등과같은 아무런 조치도 취할 수 없는 것으로 밝혀져 충격을 주고 있다.

이에 대해 이명박은 "안 먹으면 될 것 아니냐"고 말했고 농림수산식품부 장관 등은 "문제가 되는 핵심부위를 절개하고 수입해 안전하다"는 등 비정상적인 발언을 쏟아냈다.

한편, 이명박 탄핵요구 네티즌 서명이 100만명을 돌파한 가운데 조선일보 등은 "'쇠고기 시위'로 반미 단체들이 돌아왔다"며 "이들은 순수하게 건강을 걱정하는 일반 시민들과 구분해야 한다"며 문제의 본질과는 동떨어진 왜곡보도에 열을 올리고 있다.
